Etsy’s 100% renewable electricity commitment includes the electricity used by the data centres that host Etsy. And when you teach something as basic as gym, you can always tell them to do laps when you run out of material.

You just keep reading and become part of a world in which no one is straight, and it all is perfectly normal. Cindy, a freshman at college, is shocked to realize she's put on a little weight after her first semester. Little does she know that in her new job as Games Mistress at Metamora Academy, she will unearth more than one girl's hidden abilities and spur some ardent rivalry between pupils and teachers, both on and off the hockey field. That, plus the student-teacher affairs, is what made this a three-star book instead of four—all the atmosphere and lead up was a great ton of fun, but the end felt kind of rushed and nonsensical. There is no shame in the characters regarding their sexuality, but the 1964 setting means society may have something to say about two women (and at one point there is a raid on a lesbian bar). I’m not sure if all academies have the same labels, but instead of “gym teacher,” Bobby is the “Games Mistress. How she’d sweated over those lesson plan assignments in Pedagogy II, how lost she’d felt when the class discussed the pros and cons of module-based teaching! As a character, Bobby is a lot of fun—trying to find her professional footing; insecure about her intellect; confident in her attractiveness but less so when it comes to longer relationships. Early in the book Bobby meets up with her girlfriend, Elaine, a young woman who refuses to be seen in public with Bobby.

She has a sense of humour, and, while the students' adoration is a bit over the top (in a way fitting to the type of book, mind), it's obvious that she would be the sort of teacher students loved. I used to teach composition, creative writing, and literature in higher education, then did a brief stint at a civic theater, followed by two years at a references desk at a public library. The more I think about it the more a detective lesbian mystery sounds hilarious: “Sarah Smith, Lesbian Private Investigator” 🙂 I definitely think I will be picking up this series. But Bobby's arrival at the elite boarding school will unearth more than one girl's hidden abilities, and spur some ardent rivalry between pupils--and teachers--on and off the field, including. I’m sure it’s because I’m a woman, but not having men around really does make a big difference in terms of feeling safe in an environment. In her Lesbian Career Girl series, Monica Nolan attempts the same sort of seemingly effortless feat. Keep in mind, they’re talking about whether or not Elaine is a traitor to lesbians, and if Bobby is sexually experienced enough.

Our sex-ed curriculum contained no mention of homosexuality, so everything I knew about the subject had come to me in bits and pieces through the middle-school gossip line. These books can be quick reads, though I wouldn’t know because I would read aloud to my husband before bed. By the way: Bobby and Lois did not go to the same high school, so Miss Watkins is a bit like a guardian angel guidance counselor for lesbians, which I find funny). here's my youtube and tiktok to see what kind of fitness content I've been creating - critiques are appreciated as I'm trying to create space for myself in the fitness industry as a non-binary lesbian.

I also absolutely hated Enid toward the end, why would you be ga-ga over a woman who sneers at your profession?

DEAR CONCERNED: You might start this conversation by letting your daughter know that there is a likelihood some of her fellow students at school or on sports teams are also lesbians, and that in this environment, along with trusting her instincts, she also has to trust other people (gay and straight) to have integrity. Carole Kerwin and Angela Cohen O'Shea--the student body's most promising athletes have nothing in common. Society is never one character; it’s a presence, though, allowing Nolan to overlap her imagined world and reality. While it had a lot of the same campy snark and 50's "gay" double entendre references, it was missing something for me that Lois Lenz had.
