Description

Simplicity and clarity isn’t just for visual designers as developers and architects should also try and achieve clear designs that focus on a set of core messages.

If you like to draw with mathematical brain or you simply like things to line up, (graphic designers this really is a good book to have in your arsenal) I would suggest getting a copy. In the 1920s in Europe, works already arose in the areas of typography, graphic design and photography with objectified conception and rigid composition. At the same time it places in the hands of the educator an aid which he can use to good effect in tuition based on the solution of practical problems. About: Josef Müller-Brockmann was a Swiss graphic designer, author, and educator - celebrated as a pioneer of the International Typographic Style. This book now attempts to close a gap by giving examples and exact directions to the professional concerning all grid problems that can occur.

Though irksome to encounter, the misprints can be overlooked as one is engrossed in the significance of the text and illustrations. Josef Müller-Brockmann (1914−1996) studied architecture, design and history of art in Zurich and worked as a graphic designer and teacher. A master piece of design education and by far the most useful piece of design literature I have ever read.

There are a lot of horrible looking interfaces out there produced by development teams who have no idea about basic design aesthetics. With examples on how to work correctly at a conceptual level and exact instructions for using all of the systems (8 to 32 fields), this guidebook provides a crystal-clear framework for problem-solving. Yes, you can read the book cover -to-cover but ideally it's just a great a reference book to get the inspiration, that quick helpful tip, and the do's and don't's of improving your layout skills. This separation between design and development helps to protect the consistency of a designer’s work as it gets translated into an application. Furthermore, I am unaware if Herr Müller-Brockmann did not attach any importance to leaving orphans (single words on a line at the end of a paragraph), but I do know that it is a no-no of modern typography practice. You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. The book is a must read for students and practitioners alike as it encapsulates an approach to design from which creativity may ensue.
