Bloody Muscle Body Builder in Hell is currently streaming on Tubi, but if you’re an Evil Dead fan, you’re going to want to possess (pun very much intended) Visual Vengeance’s Blu-ray. Amateur ghost hunters in over their heads is a plot description that could apply to many found footage movies, let alone horror in general. Alternately known as "The Japanese Evil Dead," this legendary, sought after independent Japanese cult film will enjoy its first ever North American release in any format and features new bonus content. It’s about a conjured house and a body builder, there’s no space for more in this hour and two minutes comedy splatter.Written, directed by, and starring Shinichi Fukazawa, this movie is an homage/spoof of Evil Dead, but also brings it's own dose of originality, and Fukazawa pulls it off with a cast of only 3 people. Other than the main character having big muscles and using a few weights to impale corpses and smash body pieces, there isn’t really much of a body-building theme. With creative and innovative scares aplenty, Terrified is the type of horror film that lives up to its name; it’s freaking petrifying. The Japanese Evil Dead is not just a descriptor; that’s the title the movie became known as internationally. Bloody Muscle Body Builder in Hell’s backstory involves the spirit of a woman killed in the house by Naoto’s father and waiting all these years for revenge, but it’s just an excuse to have characters become possessed and stage some outrageous gore gags.

There is however a lot of residual passionate amateur charm to the fact that Evil Dead inspired someone to go out and make a no-budget, one-man crew knockoff with even fewer resources than him.

Gedreht wurde "Bloody Muscle Body Builder in Hell" auf Super-8, was der Optik zwar einen Retro-Touch verleiht, aber die Qualität leider auf unterem VHS-Niveau mit grieseligem Bild ansiedelt.

There’s a certain charm to its commitment, but Fukazawa also filters the Evil Dead demonic possession plot through the lens of a traditional Japanese ghost story. Over a decade later, a documentary crew ventures there to answer what happened on that fateful night. An unexplained accident on their first night in business results in 15 attendees and staff members’ tragic deaths. Husband-and-wife Sudanese refugees Bol (Sope Dirisu) and Rial (Wunmi Mosaku) have been through more than most endure in a lifetime. Visual Vengeance was cool enough to send me a copy of Bloody Muscle Body Builder in Hell, so, unlike with L.

The horror is intrinsic to a family coping with grief and loss, but it’s heightened to a horrifying degree thanks to Bertino’s distinct style and twisted vision of evil. Those who are into a more polished and professional standard of horror movie will do best to avoid this one.

Fukazawa wisely kept the film’s running time brief, it comes in at just over an hour, and after a bit of buildup makes sure that Bloody Muscle Body Builder in Hell never slows down enough for the viewer to start caring about the obviously rubber body parts crawling around.Mixed in there are also plenty of allusions to other films: there is the rotten corpse using the flesh and blood of the living to reconstitute itself from Hellraiser; the animated severed hand from Evil Dead II; the spider creature formed of a disembodied head from The Thing; and even the shirt burst and ripped by flexing muscles from the Incredible Hulk. Japan's answer to “The Evil Dead” which see’s a couple of paranormal investigators accompanied by the ex-boyfriend of one of them who make a bloody mess of a creepy Tokyo house with a murderous past as they provoke the wrath of a jealous vengeful spirit.
